This happened to me a couple days ago during play testing. He has Elvish Archdruid in play and a Yeva, Nature's Herald in play. He tries to flash another Yeva, Nature's Herald into play, and before they both die due to the legend rule, he tried to tap the Elvish Archdruid for 3 green mana. Was i correct by saying this couldnt happen because both Yeva's die immediately because the legend rule wouldnt go on the stack? Therefore there is no chance to tap the Archdruid for mana before the Yeva's are in the graveyard.

You are correct. Legend Rule is a state based effect, and at no point does he have priority with both Yevas in play.__________________ "He fights you not because you have wronged him, but because you are there."[16:17] <@BrassMan> what do you need new tech for? My opponent had an Odric, Master Tactician out and met the attacking requirements to choose blockers, etc...I have out 17 Goblin Tokens, and his Odric's power was at 8. Can he make 8 Tokens block and assign 1 damage to all of them, with 1st strike, killing all 8 Goblins? ~MM __________________ Blah, blah, blah werewolf. Smackity-smack not a werewolf. Yes. What is the question in your mind? I.E. what is the other way it could happen that you're thinking of?

I just found it hard to believe that 1 guy could first strike and kill 8 guys.~MM __________________ Blah, blah, blah werewolf. Smackity-smack not a werewolf. Suspicious of this fruit loop. My vote this round will be for Player X.New keeper of the Logout button

It's okay. My brother (knows how to play, just has never played competitively and only plays on occasion now) or thought stacking damage is equally "hard to believe." I'm actually glad they threw it away. Coincidentally enough, he also thinks planeswalkers are awesome (so....R&D is making the right moves). Is there an easy way to distinguish between things that stack (eg Exalted) and things that don't stack (eg Lifelink)?

Abilities with a trigger will each trigger independently, so they stack. Flanking, exalted, and provoke stack. Most static abilities like lifelink, flash, flying, deathtouch, double and first strike don't stack. Check the Comprehensive Rules, section 702 to see a full list of abilities. Look for the line of text in most of the abilities that says either "redundant" or "triggers separately" This covers most of the abilities, but there's a few like Amplify that aren't covered this way.

If the enchantment Blood Moon is in play, does my Dryad Arbor still remain a creature as well as being a mountain? Or is it just a mountain?

Blood moon does not stop it from being a 1/1 colorless Creature - Dryad. It just changes it from Forest to Mountain. Original Type Line - Land Creature — Forest Dryad New Type Line - Land Creature — Mountain Dryad __________________ "He fights you not because you have wronged him, but because you are there."[16:17] <@BrassMan> what do you need new tech for? Hey! So at the last FNM draft, my opponent played a Guild Feud, and on his upkeep I chose a Deathrite Shaman (only creature pulled from Guild Feud's effect) and he chose a Sunspire Griffin. Before it came to the fight, I attempted to use a Giant Growth on my Deathrite so it wouldn't die. One judge said that the Guild Feud's ability would resolve first so my Deathrite would die anyways. The second judge said something about state based action, that since the Guild Feud hadn't run out of card text when I tried to cast the Giant Growth, I could legally do so. This started a minor debate which I settled by agreeing to undoing the Growth and my Deathrite died, and without the blocker I lost when I could have more than likely won. So... are you allowed to pump in response to a fight?

Text of Guild Fued:At the beginning of your upkeep, target opponent reveals the top three cards of his or her library, may put a creature card from among them onto the battlefield, then puts the rest into his or her graveyard. You do the same with the top three cards of your library. If two creatures are put onto the battlefield this way, those creatures fight each other. You cannot cast/activate anything while Guild Feud is resolving. The creatures fight WHILE GF is resolving. Ergo, you cannot giant growth and save your guy. Sorry. Judge #2 has no idea what he's talking about, btw. __________________ "He fights you not because you have wronged him, but because you are there."[16:17] <@BrassMan> what do you need new tech for? Thanks for the quick response! I just wanted to know if it was an unjust loss (glad it wasn't), and its good to know that rule as it seems I see that card played against me quite often in draft for whatever reason.

thats really awkward because its a 14th pick card, barely beating out the basic land.

No worries. That's just the way it works.

I think its picked up because its funny more than anything else. I know a lot of them picked up Scrambleverse and Alpha Brawl (Yay for high cost red cards that force awkward player interaction!) when they were in the drafted set. When you spend as much on booster boxes as some of the guys at my LGS, I think you're drafting more for fun than anything else. At least, I think they are.

I have some questions about the Two-Headed Giant format:1.) How does Empyrial Archangel work in this format? 2.) How does Goblin Guide work in this format? 3.) How does landwalk work if one opponent has the land, but the other one doesn't? And for Pristine Angel, what happens when I attack with her (she taps, and loses protection), and an opponent declares blockers. I then cast a spell, which untaps her (gives her protection back), what would result from this? Thanks!

Since blockers are declared the angel is blocked. Any creature assigned to block the angel would attempt to deal damage, but it we be prevented by the angel's protection. If you want your angel to not be blocked you'd have to untap her during the "Declare Attackers Step" when you get priority (see rule 508.3 and the whole 500 series for the breakdown of the steps during each part of the turn). That would make it illegal for your opponent to declare a black blocker during the "Declare Blockers Step".

If I soulbond a Tandem Lookout with Stealer of Secrets, does the Stealer draw me 2 cards when dealing damage? Or are multiple card-draw rules on a card redundant?__________________ /Thunder in the wind/No rain/Peace mourns its passing/"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." -Dr. Seuss

Since 'When ~ deals combat damage to a player, draw a card" isn't yet a keyword (and really should be) there's not a straight up line of the rules that says whether multiple instances are redundant. That said, if the effects are coming from multiple sources, they all trigger seperately, ie: Edric enchanted with Curiosity draws you two. Giving the Stealer of Secrets double strike would draw you two. Other abilities that ARE keyworded that trigger on dealing combat damage to a player (Poisonous for example) DO stack when multiple instances appear on a creature. So yes. You would draw two off the soulbound Stealer.

All damage that would be dealt to you is dealt to your Empyrial Archangel instead. Damage that would be dealt to your teammate is still dealt to your teammate, affecting your team's shared life total.810.9. Damage, loss of life, and gaining life happen to each player individually. The result is applied to the team’s shared life total. Example: In a Two-Headed Giant game, a player casts Flame Rift, which reads, “Flame Rift deals 4 damage to each player.” Each team is dealt a total of 8 damage.
quote: 2.) How does Goblin Guide work in this format?
As Goblin Guide's triggered ability resolves, you choose one of your opponents as the defending player for the effect.810.7b Any one-shot effect that refers to the “defending player” refers to one specific defending player, not to both of the defending players. The controller of the effect chooses which one the spell or ability refers to at the time the effect is applied. The same is true for any one-shot effect that refers to the “attacking player.” ...
quote: 3.) How does landwalk work if one opponent has the land, but the other one doesn't?
If either opponent controls a land of that type, the creature with landwalk is unblockable.810.7d As the declare blockers step begins, the defending team declares blockers. Creatures controlled by the defending players can block any attacking creatures. The defending team has one combined block, and that set of blocking creatures must be legal as a whole. See rule 509.1. Example: If an attacking creature has forestwalk and either player on the defending team controls a Forest, the creature can’t be blocked.

Ciao;Does the Thopter Foundry / Sword of the Meek combo work if I have a Tempered Steel or Master of Etherium in play? I'm guessing not, that the thopter tokens come into play at the higher power / toughness if either of those are in play. Cheers for confirmation. ~keywacat

Correct. If you have either of those out, you're kind-of hosed.

What about when the opponent team attacks and neither myself nor my partner are able to block them? Would they be able to "declare" the attackers to my partner to bypass Empyrial Archangel's damage absorption ability?
