Welcome to Rulings Thread Part 47. Post all your rules/tournament questions here and they will get answered. Please wait a bit before you think we ignored you, we all live lives outside of MOTL but we do answer when we see them. If you are going to answer a question, please be 100% sure that your answer is correct. If you are just guessing or *think* you know the answer, keep it to yourself. There are plenty of judges and people who will know it correctly, and if multiple answers are given, it just confuses the person who asked. This thread is a flame-free zone. If you can't be civil, don't respond. New players shouldn't be worried about being made fun of when they're trying to learn. Some information for ya... Comprehensive Rules (also available in Word, Rich Text, and PDF formats) The complete rules for the game of Magic. Beginners should not go here; they are very intimidating. Oracle Card Reference The official text for every card in existence (use Gatherer for any quick questions about Oracle texts, Gatherer uses the Oracle text of all cards). Official Tournament Rules The official rules for sanctioned tournaments. Basic Rulebook Simplified rules for beginning players. If you are new to the game, you should read this and not the Comprehensive Rules. Set FAQs The official FAQs for each set. Look here if you have a specific question about a card. Judge Certification Program How to become a judge. MTG-L mailing list archives A good place to get official answers to rules questions, or to search for previous answers. DCIJUDGE-L mailing list archives The official Judge list. A good place to search for previous answers and discussion involving judging decisions, philosophy, etc. NOT rules questions. That's what MTG-L is for. __________________ Ebay problems? File a claim, leave a neg, buy on MOTL.

I have a Venser, the Sojourner and a Glimmerpoint Stag in play. I use Venser's +2 ability to flash the Stag. When the stag returns the battlefield, I flash an opponent's creature. Will the creature return to the battlefield at the end of my opponent's end step?

Yes. Since the beginning of your end step has already occured, it will return at the beginning of the opponent's end step.

The Leyline of the Void/Helm of Obedience combo still works under the current rules right? I can't shake this notion that something has changed to stop it from working. Also Leyline of the Void prevents the shuffle trigger of Emrakul, Kozilek, and Ulamog right?

Does Sunder work with Taniwha? Would I be able to Sunder prior to my lands phasing out? Or rather pool mana and Sunder after the lands phase out.

Yes. You could float the mana with the trigger on the stack and cast after it resolves.

Yes and yes. At the beginning of your upkeep triggers like Taniwha go on the stack in the order you choose. Then you gain priority to play instants. you may also float the mana, resolve the ability and then play Sunder.

2 questions:If I have a Disciple of the Vault and 2 miscellaneous artifact creatures in play and all 3 are assigned lethal combat damage, does my opponent lose life for the artifact creatures going to the graveyard? If I use Astral Slide's remove until end of turn ability on an enchanted creature, all enchantments attached to said creature are destroyed, yes?

yes and yes

My friend seems to think this doesn't work:I have pyromancer's ascension on the field with 0 counters on it. I cast steady progress and proliferate a counter on it. Even though it has no counters on it, doesn't the game see it as "0 counters?" making it a viable target?

No, that does not work. 701.23. Proliferate
701.23a To proliferate means to choose any number of permanents and/or players that have a counter, then give each exactly one additional counter of a kind that permanent or player already has.

Even the reminder text on Steady Progress makes this clear: Proliferate. (You choose any number of permanents and/or players with counters on them, then give each another counter of a kind already there.) What kind of twisted logic leads to the conclusion that a permanent with no counters on it has counters on it?

Yes. If you have two goblin chieftains in play, redcap will deal 2 more damage.

Nope. Generals are Cast from the command zone, and Mage says doran cant be cast. No dorans for him. __________________ "He fights you not because you have wronged him, but because you are there."[16:17] <@BrassMan> what do you need new tech for? [16:18] <@BrassMan> gush is unrestricted

My opponent has a planeswalker out.I declare attackers with a eldrazi (with annihilator) choosing the planeswalker as the target for the attack. When the annihilator trigger resolves, my opponent chooses to sacrifice the planeswalker being attacked. Does attack not go through?

The eldrazi is still attacking, it just doesn't have anything to deal combat damage to.__________________ "He fights you not because you have wronged him, but because you are there."[16:17] <@BrassMan> what do you need new tech for? [16:18] <@BrassMan> gush is unrestricted

well its still attacking but it will deal no damage to the other player. "If a planeswalker leaves play or changes controllers, it's removed from combat and stops being attacked. However, a creature that was attacking that planeswalker isn't removed from combat -- it continues to attack. It may be blocked. If it isn't blocked, it remains an attacking creature but assigns no damage during the combat damage step. If it is blocked, it will deal damage to any creature blocking it as normal. If the attacker has trample, the trample ability has no effect because there's nothing for the creature to assign excess damage to."

like a Necrotic Ooze? Yes "* If an activated ability of a card in a graveyard references the card it's printed on by name, treat Necrotic Ooze's version of that ability as though it referenced Necrotic Ooze by name instead. For example, if Cudgel Troll (which says "{G}: Regenerate Cudgel Troll") is in a graveyard, Necrotic Ooze has the ability "{G}: Regenerate Necrotic Ooze."" So a Necrotic Ooze with a Myr Propagator in the graveyard would have {3}, {T}: Put a token that's a copy of Necrotic Ooze onto the battlefield.

No.

TimeBeing, you've gone off on a tangent. The question has nothing to do with Necrotic Ooze.If you copy a Myr Propagator with a Quicksilver Gargantuan, you will get a 7/7 Myr Propagator. This is because Quicksilver Gargantuan copies everything(name, type, mana cost, abilities, etc. except P/T, which it sets to 7/7). If you use the ability of this beefy Myr Propagator, it will produce 7/7 Myr Propagator tokens. The tokens can not come into play as things other than Myr Propagators because they are not copies of Quicksilver Gargantuan, they are copies of what the Quicksilver Gargantuan is copying. __________________ "If you're right 90% of the time, why quibble about the other 3% ?""I intend to live forever.
