RIP Ray Bradbury.Ray Bradbury is probably the greatest writer I've ever read. His books read more like poetry than prose. If you haven't read The Illustrated Man you should. This collection of sci-fi short stories are very accessible—they are more about people and situations than technobabble. My two favorite stories are No Particular Night or Morning and Kaleidoscope. I also like his books Fahrenheit 451 and The Martian Chronicles. You will be greatly missed. __________________ Everyone you meet is going through something * BoltBait is the official holder of the MOTL Logout Button [Trades] [Rules] [FAQ] [Prices] [Card Searches] [Tools] [WotC] [Dominoes] [Art] [#MOTL Chat] [Logout]

I remember the first time I read a Sound of Thunder in class. I thought it was amazing for what how long it was.

Yar.
So Iron Maiden is coming to town with Alice Cooper. And a week before that, it's the Scorpions. That might be an expensive week... EDIT: Ruh roh. Def Leppard a week after Maiden. You should have waited for his ref-check before you rated him a 3. Of course, a trader is going to give you a retaliation 3. This is one of the downfalls of the MOTL ref-system. At least eBay stopped allowing bad sellers to leave negative feedback (I think you can only leave positive feedback once someone pays).

I did wait. I sent my ref checker 1st. he gave me a 3 cuz I tried explainging to him for future trades, top loaders are recommended. He thought I was being rude. So he gave me 3 rating. Sigh. Noobs. Rookies. I could understand if I deserved it, but no way in hell I did. __________________ Motl member since November 1, 2000Your 2008 and 2010 Motl Siskel & Ebert award winner! 34th in refs on Motl! maybe it could be arranged so that feedback can only be seen after each party has reffed each other? __________________ /Thunder in the wind/No rain/Peace mourns its passing/"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." -Dr. Seuss

Wouldn't matter as you can go back and edit your ref. I have a 3 from way back in 2001 on my ref list. It was a 5 and then the user had some BTA cases pop up. Looks like he went back and edited his refs down to 3's and left bad info in retaliation. If they hid refs until both were filled out and then locked the number given, that would do it, maybe. Make it where you could only update the value and leave edits to what you wrote.
code:
UPDATE ref SET rating = IF(rating IS NULL, 'number', rating) ...
sort of

Be honest. Tell them you're at your wit's end and if they don't stop being asshats, you don't want them in your life. __________________ *My LJ*Letter Bombs!*Facebook*Logout- I had it second!*CKGB

That doesn't really work either, because then if you have a good first trade, but a future trade goes bad, you can't fix the ref to a proper number. There really isn't a way to make a foolproof system. Any way you work it there are pros and cons. The number of idiots doing stupid things is low enough that one bad ref isn't really going to be a problem, so don't worry too much about it. __________________ There's no need to fear, UNDERDOG is here! All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. Whelp... I've been cleared to audit some math courses next semester. I may not get an academic job, but I'll be damned if I graduate without at least some marketable skills. __________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. so far, I only have a phone number 850.273.0103 and email address dfgcheng@yahoo.com. I'm still trying but I'm not really expecting to get a physical address. scratch that; Jen Cheng 2535 Brighton Road Tallahassee, Florida 32301 I think that is one of the same addresses used before. Is it a legit address? Anyone ever meet this loser?

Ugh, got like 3 emails from this dude today.Found his facebook account though if you guys are interested. At least it had the same stuff on the account as it did in his email address, and he lives in Tallahassee. When I was looking at it, I kind of got the feeling that the dude emailing me was impersonating the guy on the Facebook page. Like the dude on Facebook is asian, but he seems like a normal, not scumbag type dude. EDIT: Not to imply that most asians are scumbags, but to imply that the guy emailing me was.

This... I talked to this scammer years ago and didn't get the idea he was even Asian at all. Who knows? I just wish he'd step in front of a fast moving train.

Yeah, not ONCE did he offer you an egg roll. =| A fair amount of asians are perfectly normal people, but terribly slimey businessmen, like a Jekyll and Hyde kind of thing once you throw money on the table. edit: being Korean/Chinese, I am basing the 2nd part off varied interactions within my parent's industries and my own jobs.

So much for playtesting and preparing for the PTQ. One hour to drive to the city, an hour navigating through construction, detour signs, and the parking entrance to the convention center was closed off, so I had to park a mile away from the site and walk. And it was the WRONG convention center (there's two, apparently). I got to the other one just in time for them to seat everyone for round one.
