with the start of this new topic.. I ask that those who have simple questions to PLEASE PLEASE post here as a last resort.. most of your answers can be found at www.wizards.com/dci/oracle.asp (this is the oracle with specific card wordings..) www.crystalkeep.com/magic/rules/summaries.html (this is where all the card specific rules are.. all updated except for planeshift at the time I'm posting this..) and your simple 6th edition rule book.. or if you dont know where that is.. you can always find the rulebook and universial tournament rules here: www.wizards.com/dci/utr_intro.asp or.. you could even search for the card you have a question on in noteworthy topics and find your answer there as I'm sure the more questioned cards have already had questions and answers given on them © __________________ References DCI Certified Level I Judge (Lvl 2 testing in progress..) Okay, here's a question: If I have a Gravity Sphere in play, and my opponent has a Goblin Balloon Brigade out, can he pay 1 Red mana to make it fly, or does the GS knock it out of the sky again? Thanks.

Because he doesn't want it to get to big and therefore hard to maintain. There were 6 other ones before, so that means it wasn't a problem making a new one each time, so why should it be a problem now?

(from the old thread) reinhart: Sure, you could Snuff Out a Shivan Wurm after it's come into play, in response to its triggered ability going on the stack. That way it'll be destroyed before the gating ability resolves.Laton: Yes he can, since the effects are applied in timestamp order meaning the Goblin Balloon Brigade can gain flying afterwards. Ruling to confirm: It removes Flying from all creatures in play when it enters play and from each creature as that creature enters play. It does not prevent Flying ability being given to the creature _after_ the Sphere is in play. [Duelist Magazine #2, Page 8] Note: please check Crystalkeep before posting questions, alot of them are answered in these rulings. PS. Coolio - the Planeshift cards are on Crystalkeep (I think since last month).

i've got two question: 1> my opponent's at 8 life, and i have Rogue Kavu. i play Sparkcaster with fires out. can i sacrifice the Rogue to Dark Triumph, when i declare it being bounced to kill my opponent? or does the dark triumph fizzle?2> i use Slimy Kavu's ability turning my forest (untapped) into a Swamp. does the 'Forest-turned-swamp' produce black or green mana? lmk -Selvaxri

T-O-N: No, Furnace of Rath doesn't double mana burn since it's not damage but loss of life.Selvaxri: (1) That won't work, because the creature is bounced on resolution - gating is NOT targeted. The following would happen, if Dark Triumph is played after the Sparkcaster comes into play: The Sparkcaster's poke and its gating ability would go on the stack (order is irrelevant here), if you then play Dark Triumph by saccing the rogue Kavu the Sparkcaster will be 7/3. But when the gating ability resolves after that, you'll have to return a green or red creature to your hand and the Sparkcaster would be the only valid choice. By the way, you could just let the Rogue Kavu be bounced, attack with Sparkcaster and then sac the Fires for +2/+2 for the kill. (2) It's a swamp once the Slimy Kavu's ability has resolved, so it produces black mana.

Okay... I have a lifeline out, goblin bombardment, and yavimaya granger.I sacrifce the granger on my turn, and it comes back at the end of my turn, letting me get a land. On my opponents turn, can I sacrifice it again for another land? What would happen if I had something like ghitu fireslinger? would it come into play tapped from the effect of lifeline?

yip_boy: (1) Sure, it'll return at the end of any player's turn so that should work. (2) You mean Ghitu Fire-Eater or Ghitu Slinger? Either way, it would return to play as a new copy so it wouldn't be tapped. Lifeline doesn't say anything about returning them to play tapped.clarksamagicman: (1) Nope it can't be countered. (2) Yes, it gets the kicker aswell, it's a complete copy of the original Urza's Rage. British Kavu: No it won't untap, it doesn't matter that it's not a creature anymore later on, it's still "Tangled".

If I temporal aperture a llanlowar elite...does that mean I can play it with kicker for free? (Since kicker is part of the casting cost)

Well, this one isn't answered yet so I want to throw my 2 cents worth in. This is a question that can be answered at the Crystal Keep (with Planeshift FAQ's to cover the Kicker part of it). Kicker is an optional cost and does not count as part of the mana (casting)cost. Using Temporal Aperture allows you to play the Elite without paying the mana cost, but you would still have to pay for the Kicker, if you wished to use the kicker. Can you chose to use the kicker when the Elite is played using the Aperture? Yes. Spells played using the Aperture are played as if they were in your hand, and the kicker rules apply to such situations.A.20.Ruling.3 (Kicker cannot normally be played if a spell is played from somewhere other than your hand - such as re-animating a creature.) __________________ My massive Foil AuctionGuarenteed Good Repacks

I'll agree with trax72, just remember there must be another creature in play in order for the Lifeline to bring the Granger back into play. That's a pretty nifty little combo if you can pull it off.

I'm really looking for comfirmation on this question. As you will read, I think I know the answer, but I'm not 100% sure.Player A is at 4 life. He has a River Boa enchanted with Armadillo Cloak. Player B attacks Player A with a Shivan Wurm (7/7 trample). Player A choses to block the Shivan Wurm with the cloaked River Boa. During damage assignement, Player B assigns 3 damage to the River Boa, and 4 trample damage to Player A. Player A, ofcourse, assigns 4 damage to the Shivan Wurm. The question is, does Player A lose the game before the Armadillo Cloak's ability RESOLVES and saves him (by gaining 4 life)? I think Player A dies, but I am not 100% sure. Here's how I see it: The assigned damage is on the stack. Once both players pass priority, the stack resolves. As the combat damage resolves, Player A's life is reduced to zero and the Armadillo Cloak's ability triggers and goes on the stack. Once the damage is done resolving, state based effects are checked and the active player would gain priority - all before the Cloak's triggered ability would resolve. Life totals are a state based effect, so Player A would die and the game would end before the Cloak's triggered ability would ever get to resolve. Is that right, or am I misunderstanding the rules on this one? __________________ My massive Foil AuctionGuarenteed Good Repacks

To trax72 on the fork question: fork simply resolves as a copy of the spell so while on the stack it can still be countered. to rpitcher: The cloak triggers when the damage is dealt. This goes on the stack and then player b gets priority. Player a is now already dead as his life is checked at this point and he is found to be on 0.

I got a couple of questions here.1.) Ok, my opponent plays a Vampiric Tutor, but instead of getting the card first, he pays his life. With the current errata, does he still get his card? 2.) This seems kinda dumb, but you dont still lose the life when someone counters Vampiric Tutor now? 3.) Lets say im playing a counter deck, I play Blood Oath, now in a sanctioned tournament, my opponent then asks me what type of card I want. If he asks me what type of card I want, that really means the spell goes off and he cant counter anymore. Am I correct? __________________ Stickdeath 4 life!My Refs Email: darkdamion@hotmail.com ~DarkDamion, the T1 Pox Guru

I have a few questions:1) What happens when I block a Juggernaut with 2 Elvish Archers? 2) If I attack with a Sengir Vampire, and my opponent blocks with a Serra Angel, does the Vampire get the +1/+1 counter and live, or does that happen after the attaack resolves? Thank you for your help. __________________ Boogidy boogidy boogidy.

Dark Damion - 1) That's kinda silly. Technically the loss of life happens after the search for the card, but if the spell resolves the search isn't optional. You can't just "forget" to do it. 2) If Vampiric Tutor is countered you don't lose any life. The errata was issued to clarify that point. 3) You don't have to say what you're calling until the spell has resolved. So technically you're right. However it would be polite to make sure he's letting it resolve first.Moorman - First strike damage is always done first. When two or more first strike creatures are involved in combat, they deal their damage simultaneously. In this case the two Elvish Archers each do two points of first strike damage. The Juggernaut receives four damage and is placed in the graveyard. He isn't alive when you get to the second damage step, so he doesn't get to deal any damage of his own. Since combat damage other than first strike damage is dealt simultaneously, your Sengir Vampire will go to the graveyard at the same time as the Serra Angel. It doesn't get a counter unless it survives the combat. __________________ email me at gzeiger@hotmail.com

If I play two Meddling Mages, can I then name two different cards that can't be played, or only one card?

ok, I have one more:let's say I have two Dual Natures in play, and I play a Blastoderm. How many copies will I get of the Blasto, and can none of the tokens be the target of spells or abilities?

Skimo - 1. Yes, you can name 2 different cards with the Meddling Mages. 2. It makes 2 copies of the creature. Yes, I think the tokens will have "cannot be targeted by spells or abilities" since its a copy of the Blastoderm. Thanks for answering the other question. Now I have another one for you:1) If my opponent has a Order of the Ebon Hand out and attacks, and I block with a Sengir Vampire, can he pump the creature twice and give it first strike after I assign the blocker, or does he have to do that before blockers are assigned? I appreciate the help. __________________ Boogidy boogidy boogidy.

He can pump him up and give him first strike at any time he has the mana available to pay the cost, so yeah your Sengir would die a horrible, horrible death.Remember, creature abilites work at instant speed, so it would be the same as if he just simply cast Howl From Beyond on it after you declared your blocker. __________________ "Training?
